Global Inequalities and Social-ecological Change

Welcome to the Research Cluster of Global Social Inequalities and Social-ecological Transformation's homepage.

Maria Backhouse is the director of the BMBF Junior Research Group "Bioeconomy and Inequalities. Transnational Entanglements and Interdependencies in the Bioenergy Sector", operating from July 1 2016 until June 30 2021.

We investigate global inequalities in the context of social and economic crisis; theoretical questions regarding societal relations to nature; social conflict and agricultural and energy systems; Green Grabbing; and the production of technological knowledge in the emerging bioeconomy.

Our regional focus includes Western Europe, South America, and Southeast Asia.
